ContractorNerd Insurance Services, LLC (“ContractorNerd,” “we,” “us,” or “our”)
Last Updated: 1/6/26
1) Purpose of this Disclosure
This Compensation Disclosure explains the types of compensation ContractorNerd may receive in connection with insurance-related services we provide (the “Insurance Services”), which may include quoting, placing, binding, servicing, and renewing insurance policies, and providing related support and consulting.
This Disclosure is provided for transparency and does not modify, replace, or supersede the terms of any insurance policy or any written agreement you may have with ContractorNerd. If there is a conflict between this Disclosure and a signed service agreement or fee agreement, the signed agreement controls.
2) Our Role (Agent and/or Broker)
Depending on the transaction, ContractorNerd may act:
- (a) as an agent of an insurance company (representing the insurer),
- (b) as a broker on your behalf (representing you), or
- (c) in another permitted capacity (including through wholesalers, managing general agents, or other intermediaries).
Our role may vary by insurer, product, and state.
3) Summary: How We May Be Compensated
ContractorNerd may be compensated in one or more of the following ways, depending on the Insurance Services provided and the insurance products placed:
- Commissions (paid by insurers and/or intermediaries)
- Fees paid by you (such as broker/service fees, platform fees, technology access fees, policy handling fees, or consulting fees)
- Contingent, supplemental, or other performance-based compensation (paid by insurers and/or intermediaries)
- Other compensation or benefits (including administrative compensation, interest/investment income on certain funds temporarily held, and non-cash benefits)
Not every type of compensation applies to every client or every policy.
4) Commissions (Paid by Insurers and/or Intermediaries)
ContractorNerd may receive commissions for the sale, placement, servicing, renewal, or administration of insurance policies. These commissions are typically a percentage of premium (or a flat amount), and the percentage/amount may vary by:
- insurer and product/line of business,
- policy terms and premium size,
- underwriting characteristics and risk profile,
- services performed, and
- other factors.
Commissions are generally paid by the insurer (or an intermediary such as a wholesaler/MGA) and are typically included in the premium you pay to the insurer (i.e., you usually do not pay commissions as a separate line item). If a policy is cancelled, rescinded, or premium is reduced, commissions may be reduced and/or returned (“chargebacks”) in accordance with the insurer’s or intermediary’s rules.
5) Fees You May Pay ContractorNerd (Where Permitted by Law)
In addition to commissions, and where permitted by applicable law, ContractorNerd may charge fees to you for certain services. Any such fee will be disclosed to you prior to binding coverage (and typically confirmed in writing), and may vary based on policy type, coverage limits, service needs, and complexity.
Examples of fees may include:
A. Broker / Service / Platform Fee
We may charge a broker, service, or platform fee for access to and use of our technology platform and/or for operational costs associated with providing quoting, placement, and service support. If charged, the amount and timing of this fee will be disclosed prior to binding.
B. Technology Access Fee
We may charge a Technology Access Fee per policy purchased for access to our technological infrastructure, platform features, and user dashboard. If charged, this fee will be disclosed prior to binding. Unless otherwise stated in a written agreement (and except as required by law), Technology Access Fees are fully earned at the time of binding and are non-refundable.
C. Policy Handling, Endorsement, Billing, or Consulting Fees
In some cases, we may charge fees for specific services (for example: policy changes/endorsements, billing-related services, certificates, audit support, loss control coordination, or consulting). Any such fees will be disclosed and agreed upon prior to being charged.
Important: If you pay a fee to ContractorNerd, ContractorNerd may also receive commission from the insurer or intermediary, unless prohibited by applicable law.
6) Contingent / Supplemental / Performance-Based Compensation
ContractorNerd may receive contingent commissions, profit-sharing, supplemental commissions, bonuses, overrides, or other performance-based compensation from insurers and/or intermediaries. These amounts, if any, are typically based on criteria measured over a period of time (often annually), such as:
- volume of business placed,
- retention/persistency,
- growth,
- loss ratio or claims performance, and/or
- other underwriting or performance measures.
Because these arrangements are typically calculated after the fact and depend on aggregate results, the amount attributable to any individual policy may not be determinable at the time of placement.
7) Other Compensation, Benefits, or Arrangements
ContractorNerd may also receive:
- compensation from insurers/intermediaries for providing administrative, marketing, underwriting support, or other services,
- non-cash benefits such as education, training, conferences, or promotional items (where permitted),
- interest or investment income on funds temporarily held in a fiduciary capacity (such as premiums or return premiums), as permitted by law and applicable agreements, and
- compensation that may be shared with, or paid to, other licensed producers or business partners involved in servicing or placing your coverage.
8) Potential Conflicts of Interest
Because different insurers, products, and compensation arrangements may result in different compensation to ContractorNerd, our compensation structure may create a financial incentive to recommend one insurer or product over another. ContractorNerd strives to make recommendations based on your needs, eligibility, coverage terms, and overall value—not compensation. You may request additional information about compensation and/or alternative quotes, if available.
9) Questions / Requests for Compensation Information
You may ask us questions about how we are compensated generally, or request information related to compensation for your specific policy, quote, placement, or renewal (and, if applicable, alternatives presented). Contact:
